Do you know what is the first mistake most people do when trying to increase conversion rates?
Mistake#1: Failing to have clear goals about their business and website
I know that I’ve been talking a lot about goals, but I can’t stress enough the importance of having goals for your website.
And if you are serious about doing business, you should have already setup your business goals. If you do, most of the work is already done.
Now all you have to do is just translate your business goals into goals for your website and you can start from here.
Either way, I am going to help you go through this process really easy.
And to do that I will need you to take a pen and paper and answer to the following questions…
I am waiting, go and grab them…
Ready? Here we go:
Q1: Why do you have a website?
This is the question that you should ask yourself: “Why do I have a website?”
By answering this question, you will identify the main goal of your website.
For example, I started my website because I wanted to help people struggling with technology build a remarkable presence online.
And now I reached a point where I want to help people drive more traffic to their websites and convert that traffic into loyal customers.
So here we have our first and main goal: Helping people drive more traffic to their websites and convert that traffic into loyal customers.
This can also be a monetary goal, say for example: I want to make $100k withing the next 12 months.
It doesn’t matter what goal you set as long as you do it and then start to work your way back from it. Just like reverse engineering.
Q2: How are you going to make $100k within the next 12 months?
Now that you know your main goal, it’s time to break it into little chunks.
Think about what products or services you need to sell and how much you should charge for them in order to achieve your main goal.
Using this example you can break it in:
- selling an eBook
- selling a course
- providing freelance services
- doing consulting
Now think how much you are going to charge for them, so you can get a steady monthly income and in the end achieve your final goal.
Moving forward, it’s time to ask yourself:
Q3: How can I get people interested in my products and services?
The best way to get people interested in your products and services is to offer them valuable content and most important, get them on an email list.
Build an autoresponder to have an incentive for them, provide great content and use that to spark interest.
You can also find other great ways to get people interested, so identify those sources and setup goals for them.
If we are going to use my example, we can use as a goal: Increasing email subscribers.
And this will essentially never finish because you can always break these goals into smaller chunks and them measure them.
But if you do this exercise, then you will end up with some goals to start with and essential metrics to measure your conversions for:
- Visitors and traffic sources
- Email Subscribers
- Leads
- eBook sales
- Course sales
Now think again about your goals and check your notes. If you need to add more, add them and celebrate. You did an wonderful job.
And if you feel like sharing, hit reply and let me know how it went.
Be remarkable,
